You can dismiss pianist/composer Ran Blake as one of the guys who tried to desiccate jazz in the late ‘50s/early ‘60s. But you’d be wrong: he has a steel mind and steely fingers; his musical conceptions aren’t overly complicated but rather genuinely complex — and can he create a mood. To celebrate the release of a biography, he performs sets of solos and duos.
