You think Darcy James Argue’s Brooklyn big band is going to be arch — but no, it stops at self-aware, with an eye on history while being completely planted in the contemporary. Great stuff, really (their new album is really great).

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: In person, José Andrés Mediterranean at Zaytinya. Streaming at home, have an Old Fashioned: in an Old Fashioned glass, muddle 1 sugar cube in 3 dashes of Angostura bitters. Pour in 2 oz. Rye. Fill the glass with ice. Stir. Express an orange peel into the drink and toss the peel in as a garnish, along with 1 or more cocktail cherries.
