Excitement-in-stasis, calm-in-roiling intensity: trumpeter Peter Evans does them both. How major a player is he? Well, the bass and drums in this quartet are played by Harish Raghavan and Tyshawn Sorey(!).

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: In person, Italian with a chance of Ashkenazi at Mark’s Off Madison. Streaming at home, have a Horn of Plenty: pour 3 oz. Champagne, 1/3 oz. each Grand Marnier and Campari, and 1/4 oz. Grenadine into a chilled Champagne flute. Garnish with half an orange wedge and a cocktail cherry.
