Vincent Dumestre’s excellent band plays and sings music heard in the French Court in the first half of the 17th Century. As always, expect stuff of almost piercing exquisiteness. Of course, Cavalli was Venetian — but the period in focus was 100 years before the Querelle des Bouffons.
