It isn’t hard to believe it’s 40 years since I saw Laurie Anderson do her entire magnum opus United States over two nights in this very hall; in fact, it’s all too easy. So it’s fitting for Anderson to come back to do a career retrospective (named after one of the songs from that extended piece). Sexmob should really do a number on “Example #22” (which they’d better include in the program), which I believe I got up and danced to in 1984 (or at least danced to as it played in my head as I walked home).
