Bass-baritone Davóne Tines, surely one of the most vital and theatrically riviting performers out there right now (and a magnificent singer as well), devised this fully-staged adaptation of Langston Hughes's bitter (and ultimately resistant) poetic representation of the African-American experience along with composer Michael Schachter. The music encompasses early Jazz and Ragtime, Spirituals, and art song. This is the kind of thing Tines does better than just about anyone right now. Ticket availability is very limited.
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Modern Greek at Ousia.
